God's Love In Action
What We Do
Our Purpose:
Food For Children exists to provide food to families in
New Hampshire that are having difficulty doing so on their own.
A large portion of the community that FFC serves is comprised of
displaced families from foreign countries who have made their way
to New Hampshire. These families receive little or no public assistance
either because of a language barrier, lack of transportation, non-qualification
for government assistance, or the knowledge of where to go for aid.
We seek to serve all who come to us for assistance, regardless of
who they are or why they are in need.
Families do not have to travel far, FFC reaches into the neighborhoods
where the need exists. FFC goes where the people are in order to
make sure that those served can more easily take advantage of the
generosity and care from those who are called to make the difference.
Our Mission:
FFC's ultimate mission is to reach into the community and
provide food assistance to families in need. Keeping in mind that
some families have to choose between rent or food and that some
individuals have to choose between their prescriptions or food,
FFC attempts to serve the community such that no one goes hungry
and no parent has to wonder where their child's next meal will come
from. By establishing relationships with churches and other charities
who are in contact with these families, parents can find their way
to FFC to get what they need to feed their children.
FFC started humbly as a concerned group of volunteers who simply
handed out sandwiches on a street corner. Over the years we have
been blessed by God to grow into a charity that collects and
distributes over 6,000 lbs. of food in any given week.
Who We Work With:
FFC has built numerous relationships with food pantries, low income
housing projects, and church groups in order to distribute food
to these organizations that serve the poor. FFC provides a resource
for grocery stores and distributors to donate and/or sell excess
food. FFC acquires the food from the various markets, warehouses
and sorts the food throughout the week, and transports the food
for distribution. Because government programs cannot cover all of
the people or every situation, the biggest impact FFC has on the
community is the consistent distribution of food every week to every one in need.
FFC truly fills a niche that no other organization can.
How We Work:
Unlike other food banks, no one has to give their name or a social
security number. As people come for food they simply state how many
people are in their family. The size of the average family served
is five members, but sometimes there's only one, sometimes as many
as twelve. On average FFC feeds approximately 125 families or 650
people each week. FFC tries to make sure that no one leaves without
the food they need each week to make it through to the next.
Why We Work:
Put simply, our love for God and our appreciation for His generous
hand in our own lives naturally results in our desire to give of
ourselves and to serve. Jesus said that it is more blessed to give
than to receive, and it is the realization of this blessing that
is our wonderful reward.
Our honor is
to be found worthy, even in our unworthiness, to be called into
His service of charitable love.
Our reward is the feeling that swells
in the heart when someone looks into your eyes and thanks you for
the hope that you have helped to provide.
Our payment is the knowledge that we are
"doers of the faith" and not just hearers only. Each and
every week we are reminded of why we do what we do for Him and those
we serve.
Faith, hope, and love - this is very rewarding work.
This is what we do.
